Spring Activities on Mackinac Island 

Typically, in late April, Mackinac Island ferries resume a regular schedule of passenger shuttles from the mainland. Spring offers a unique time for visitors to see Mackinac Island and a time some visitors may even prefer. During spring Mackinac Island restaurants and shops are just starting up after the winter months and there are very small crowds on the island compared to the busy summer season.

Founded in the 1600s, Mackinac Island is full of rich history and old-world charm. Fewer crowds allow you the opportunity to see the historic island in a different way. With no motorized vehicles allowed on the island, take a step back in time, with a tour of the island on a horse-drawn carriage. During summer months, horse-drawn carriages may be harder to book, but with fewer people, you’ll have an easier time booking your tour. 

Spring is also a great time to head up to Fort Mackinac. Fort Mackinac is a historic military outpost that served as a home for many soldiers and families. During summer hundreds of people visit this oldest building in the state of Michigan. Springtime allows you to see the cannon and rifle demonstrations without the crowds.

With no cars allowed biking and walking are the normal modes of transportation on Mackinac Island. Spring offers great weather to explore the island with cooler temperatures providing a more comfortable traveling experience. Take in the beautiful scenery without getting too hot or sweaty.
