Get a Closer Look into Mackinac Island History

Founded in the 1600s, Mackinac Island is full of rich history and old-world charm. Fewer crowds allow you the opportunity to see the historic island in a different way. With no motorized vehicles allowed on the island, take a step back in time, with a tour of the island on a horse-drawn carriage. Spring is also a great time to head up to Fort Mackinac. Fort Mackinac is a historic military outpost that served as a home for many soldiers and families. During summer hundreds of people visit this oldest building in the state of Michigan. Springtime allows you to see the cannon and rifle demonstrations without the crowds.
