Welcome to our mouthwatering journey through the culinary delights of Mackinac Island. We understand that when you come to visit Mackinac Island choosing the perfect restaurant can be a daunting task, with an abundance of options vying for your attention. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of all the hidden gems and renowned establishments serving the best food on the island.
Whether you’re a regular Mackinac Island visitor looking to try a new place or a traveler eager to try the best food, Mackinac Island restaurants offer a variety of wonderful experiences that are sure to please. Make sure you come to Mackinac Island hungry because you will want to try all the food!
To begin our culinary journey, it is important not to skip the most important meal of the day, breakfast. We recommend visiting one of the adorable coffeeshops on the island for an amazing cup of coffee and baked goods. Our favorite is the Good Day Café. We recommend grabbing a delicious giant cinnamon roll or the ‘Darn Good Egg Sandwich’, you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu though.
After a long morning exploring the island and maybe even a morning hike to Fort Mackinac, we recommend getting the “Single Best Burger” in the state of Michigan at The Chuckwagon of Mackinac Island. The Chuckwagon has been serving locals and visitors for almost 60 years and is known for its amazing burgers. The Chuckwagon offers an old-fashioned diner experience and is a place you won’t want to skip during your visit to Mackinac Island.
After burning some serious calories on a bike in the afternoon, you will need a mid-day snack and an ice-cold beer. We recommend visiting the Great Turtle Brewery & Distillery. Serving up mighty cocktails and out-of-the-shell beers, Great Turtle Brewery & Distillery has an ice-cold beverage for everyone. Their food menu is also amazing, we recommend grabbing one of their ‘grazing’ items. Our favorite is either the Smoked Whitefish Hushpuppies or the Great Lakes Smoked Whitefish Dip — don’t worry if fish isn’t your vibe, try their Giant Bavarian Pretzel or Famous Great Turtle Wings.
For dinner we recommend sitting outside at The Pink Pony. Featured as one of ‘America’s 10 Best Restaurants for Outdoor Dining’, the view from this patio is worth the longer wait times. Their menu is full of stunning entrees that picking one is almost impossible. Whether you’re in the mood for steak, fish, ribs, or pasta, there dishes are sure to leave you full and satisfied.
Lastly, you can’t skip dessert. There are so many sweet treats on the island, you’ll have to have more than one! Mackinac Island is specifically known for its legendary Mackinac Island fudge. Did you know people have been flocking to the island just to get fudge for more than century? Locals have even curated a name for these visitors calling them “fudgies.” You won’t have trouble finding this delightful dessert because there are more than 12 fudge shops across the island. Our recommendation is the Murray Hotel Fudge Company that deems itself as the “creamiest fudge on Mackinac Island,” and we have to agree.
A trip to Mackinac Island is not complete without ice cream. There is nothing like ending a hot summer day with a cold scoop of delicious ice cream. We recommend visiting Sadie’s Ice Cream Parlor at the Grand Hotel. Split a banana split with your sweetheart or try a delectable chocolate dipped cone.
