Where is Mackinac Island?
Mackinac Island is a small island located in northern Michigan. It is in Lake Huron, East of the Straits of Mackinac. Mackinac Island is reached by ferry or plane, either from St. Ignace in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, or Mackinac City, in the Lower Peninsula.
Getting Around
The most common methods of transportation on the Island are walking, biking, and horse-drawn carriage.
The front desk can call a horse-drawn taxi to pick you up, or you may call them from anywhere on the island. The taxis run 24 hours per day during the summer season. You cannot hail a taxi on the island; rather, you must call and request one. Taxi drivers only take cash.

If you’d like to rent a bike while you’re on the island, there are plenty of options. On Main St, Mackinac Island Bike Shop and Mackinac Wheels are popular options. You can typically rent a bike by the hour, for a half day, a full day, overnight, or for a 24 hour period.
