"...The location is splendid - a quick walk to all the bustle of main street's shops and restaurants - but when at Mackinac House, you also get to enjoy some quiet reading and people-watching from their spacious lawn and many comfortable seating options."
Mackinac Island is a small island located in northern Michigan. It is in Lake Huron, East of the Straits of Mackinac. Mackinac Island is reached by ferry or plane, either from St. Ignace in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, or Mackinac City, in the Lower Peninsula.
The most common methods of transportation on the Island are walking, biking, and horse-drawn carriage.
The front desk can call a horse-drawn taxi to pick you up, or you may call them from anywhere on the island. The taxis run 24 hours per day during the summer season. You cannot hail a taxi on the island; rather, you must call and request one. Taxi drivers only take cash.
To call for a taxi, you may call (906) 847-3323. You may also call for a taxi to bring you back to the Mackinac Island ferry dock. For more information, visit Mackinac Island Carriage Tours.
If you’d like to rent a bike while you’re on the island, there are plenty of options. On Main St, Mackinac Island Bike Shop and Mackinac Wheels are popular options. You can typically rent a bike by the hour, for a half day, a full day, overnight, or for a 24 hour period.
When you're deciding on a place to stay on Mackinac Island, consider the food choices close by. There are a plethora of restaurants along main street that are a short walk from The Mackinac House. Dining options within a quarter mile of The Mackinac House include Good Day Café, Island Slice Pizzeria, Millie’s on Main, Pink Pony, Yankee Rebel Tavern, and plenty more! And don’t forget to bring home some famous Mackinac Island fudge—we love the original Murdick’s Fudge!
