We are closely monitoring the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention and World Health Organization’s (WHO) statements regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and following guidelines from these agencies and the local health departments. During these uncertain times, we want you to know that we are doing everything we can to ensure you are safe when travel is permitted to Mackinac Island. The safety and health of guests, employees, and residents of Mackinac Island are a top priority.

The entire staff at The Mackinac House hope you’re well and safe during these unique times. We are excited to announce to you our opening date of April 30, 2021. We want to update you on some new changes we have for our guests this year. Mackinac Safe is The Mackinac House’s complete commitment to sanitization. The safety of you and all of our guests is our top priority. The 2021 Season will offer a new normal to help keep you, your family, and friends safe. Below are new guidelines we are asking all of our guests to follow while they visit The Mackinac House. We hope to see you up on Mackinac Island this Summer.
New Sanitizing Practices:
Upon your arrival at The Mackinac House, you will notice many new changes. For the health and safety of our employees and guests, we are not offering guest room housekeeping service on a daily basis. At this time, cleaning between guest stays will now require more steps to provide a super sanitized room for our guests. We are focusing on high traffic areas and frequently touched surfaces. Extra sanitizing will take place on TV remotes, grab rails, door handles, light switches, and seating. While you are here, additional amenities and towels can be arranged through the Front Desk. In addition to the excellent cleanliness of our rooms, our Housekeeping Team will sanitize your room with an Electrostatic Sanitation Fogger prior to your arrival.
Our public areas and surfaces will continue to be cleaned and sanitized throughout the day. The high-contact points will now be cleaned more frequently. This includes the Front Desk counter, door handles, and handrails.
Guest Distancing Policy:
To help diminish the spread of COVID-19, all guests will be required to wear a face mask and social distance by at least six feet while indoors. Frequent hand washing and sanitizing are highly encouraged while you are visiting us. Hand sanitizing stations are placed around the facility for your use. Please follow the directions of signage placed throughout the property. Keep your eyes open for our “Stay Mackinac Safe” spots located 6 feet apart. We also ask that only guests registered to The Mackinac House are in the building.
We are monitoring the health of all our employees. Temperatures will be taken prior to each shift. If any of our employees show any symptoms or have a temperature of 100.5 degrees or greater, the employee will be sent home and monitored.
All staff will be trained on the new cleaning procedures, social distancing, and personal hygiene. They will be required to wash their hands and use hand sanitizer much more frequently. Employees will also be wearing face masks during their shift.
For your remaining balance due at check-in we accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover or personal checks. If paying in cash please make sure to have exact change in an envelope for the safety of our staff and yourself.
Continental Breakfast & Afternoon Treats
We’ve had to adjust a few of our amenities offered here at The Mackinac House. For your safety, we have made the tough decision of not having our continental breakfast or our afternoon treats in our lobby area. A light continental breakfast will still be provided but it will be delivered to your door anytime from 8 am-10 am. Treats will be delivered to your door daily at 3 pm.
To protect our staff we will not be able to handle luggage this season. Our property does not have an elevator so if you are unable to carry your bags please hire a dock porter to deliver your bags. Please make sure your luggage is tagged with your first and last name and your room number so the porter can place it in front of your door. Dock Porters will be at the dock when you get off the ferry on Mackinac Island. Any of them can assist you. Just let them know where you are staying, show them your bags, and tip them and they will bring them over for you. A suggested gratuity is a minimum of $2.00-$3.00 per bag. When departing the island if you would like a porter please come to the front desk and we can call one for you. While luggage can still be stored before your room is ready if you are planning on spending time on the island after checking out we are asking that you have your luggage sent to the ferry to provide a space for our incoming guests to store their luggage.
For your safety, the ferry companies are requiring you to wear a face mask and to social distance while on board. The boats will be sanitized between each trip. Please remember to show up 30 minutes prior to departure. The Dock Porters will still be available for you to use upon arrival to the Island.
The City of Mackinac Island is suggesting all visitors wear a face mask and social distance by six feet. Please be sure to wash your hands often and use hand sanitizer when possible. For the most updated information on how Mackinac Island is handling the Coronavirus, please click here.
